High-level Conference on the Reform of the Common Fisheries Policy in the European Parliament.

Under the headline "Marine Policy - What Next?", the forum will be addressing four themes:

• Science-policy integration
• Marine conservation, planning and development
• Ecosystem-based management in the marine environment
• Management of marine resources

This is the UK’s first Marine and Coastal Policy Forum, led by the Centre for Marine and Coastal Policy Research, at the Marine Institute, University of Plymouth.

There are at least 6 major programmes of policy work and implementation underway at present, including CFP Reform, MSFD, Marine Planning, Marine Licencing, MCZ implementation and Round 3 Offshore wind development as well as many routine projects. These are increasing the complexity of management and all are set in a context of reduced funding. How much will austerity force us to take a hard look the way we work in the marine environment? Under the guidance of Dutch MP Marianne Thieme, two young marine biologists are searching worldwide for scientific information about the condition of our biggest ecosystems. Underwater photographer Dos Winkel shows them the beauty of marine life and the enormous threats to which it is exposed. The film screening will take place in the European Parliament.

The annual European Maritime Day Stakeholder Conference in 2011 is co-organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, Office of the Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, and the City of Gdansk.
