The Fisheries Secretariat (FishSec) is an independent non-profit and an unpolitical organisation dedicated to the protection and restoration of marine ecosystem services, with a focus on fisheries. The organisation was established in 2003 and the hub is in Stockholm.

Our goal
Our goal is well managed seas with rich biodiversity and thriving fish stocks to secure healthy and local seafood to consumers and a sustainable fishing sector.

Our work
We advocate for fisheries within the limits of the marine ecosystem, preserving marine resources as well as their habitats, we are mainly active in the EU and regional policy development in the Baltic Sea.

The aim is to implement policy that ensure sustainable fishing. Our work is based on four significant cornerstones;

  • analysis
  • research
  • communication
  • dialogue with policymakers and stakeholders, building on science and practical experience.

We are at the intersection of science and policy; industry and environmental organisations. A position that makes us quite unique.
