On the 15th of March we hosted a webinar introducing our new “Small Fish, Big Impact” project, the recording of the webinar has been added to our Youtube channel and can be viewed here.
During the webinar policy officer Sara Söderström gave an introduction to the new project and Lina Birgersson the project manager and lead researcher presented an overview of forage fish biology and ecology in the Baltic Sea. This was followed by a Q&A session with Bernadette Buttfield, Senior Policy officer – UK marine time at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and Imogen Cessford, Team Lead North Sea and Iain Glasgow, senior policy officer from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in the UK on the recent announcement to close the UK part of the North Sea to sand eel fishing.
This webinar was the first of a series of webinars on forage fish, the next one is preliminary scheduled for late May and will cover fisheries for forage fish in the Baltic sea and fisheries policy.
