HELCOM Heads of Delegation meeting

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

Dates: 03 - 04 September 2013

Ahead of the Ministerial meeting on 3 October, national civil servants will seek to iron out issues ahead of the final negotiation. HELCOM has posed the question: after six years of the Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP), are Baltic countries on track to reach Good Environmental Status by 2020? FISH, together with other stakeholders, has initiated the Race for the Baltic campaign, which is working to ensure improved biodiversity and marine protection, an end to overfishing, and a reduction in eutrophication.

Danish politicians meet with Danish NGO´s

WWF Denmark, Greenpeace Denmark , Danmarks Naturfredningsforening and Oceana are hosting a marine day in Øresund for Danish politicians. The event is a follow up on a report that was published last year 'Havets Natur -– et oplæg til handleplan for Danmarks marine biodiversitet' (please see pdf attached) The event is closed for invited politicians only.

WWF Baltic Sea Festival Seminar

WWF holds their 11th annual Baltic Sea Seminar, an important part of the week-long Baltic Sea Festival. The theme of this year’s seminar is ‘Turning Adversity into Opportunity – A Business Plan for the Baltic Sea’, where a report produced in collaboration between WWF and the Boston Consulting Group will be launched.

The seminar will take place at the Embassy of Finland in Stockholm, Sweden.

BALTFISH meeting

Location: Riga, Latvia

Dates: 27 - 28 August 2013

This will be the first meeting under the Latvia Presidency. The first day will be for the BALTFISH forum and the second day will be a closed meeting of the high level group. On the agenda will be the implementation of the discard ban in Baltic fisheries, a memorandum of understanding for BALTFISH will also be developed, while TACs and quotas for 2014 and the financing of the RACs are to be discussed as well. At the high level group, Member State officials and the Commission will also discuss multiannual management plans.

IFM European Eel Conference

Location: London, England

Dates: 25 - 27 June 2013

The Institute of Fisheries Management in association with the Sustainable Eel Group, Environment Agency and Fishmongers Company will be hosting an international conference on the current status and conservation of the eel. The aims of the conference are to bring together leading fishery scientists, conservationists, fisherman and regulators to highlight the important role that this fish plays socially, ecologically and economically across Europe.
