WWF Baltic Sea Festival Seminar 31 August 2011 – 12.30–17.45, Embassy of Finland, Gärdesgatan 9-11, Stockholm, Sweden Please join WWF for its annual Baltic Sea Seminar, held for the ninth consecutive year, as an important part of the Baltic Sea Festival. The theme of this year’s seminar is ‘Securing the Future for a Beautiful Blue Baltic Sea’. The seminar will feature the diverse and unique perspectives of key stakeholders such as governments, NGOs and public and private sector representatives. WWF will also unveil the results of the 2011 Baltic Sea Scorecard, which will grade countries’ implementation of the principle environmental agreements currently in place which offer the best hope for ‘saving’ the Baltic Sea. WWF believes it is valuable to evaluate the degree to which governments live up to the promises they make, as no agreement – no matter how ambitious – can be successful without equally ambitious follow-through and delivery. The seminar will once again be conducted in the presence of H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. For detailed information please see the links below.

The 6th World Recreational Fishing Conference

The 6th World Recreational Fishing Conference (WRFC) will be held at Humboldt-University Berlin from August 1 – 4, 2011 organized by the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (www.igb-berlin.de), Humboldt-University and the German Angler Association. The conference theme is “Toward Resilient Recreational Fisheries”.

DG MARE visit in France: CFP reform

Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries has set up a number of meetings in targeted EU Member States to discuss the proposals for the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) reform. In France the meeting will take place on July 28.

The challenges of fisheries management and how to address them successfully in the new CFP

WWF cordially invites you to attend a seminar organised under the patronage of the Polish Presidency of the EU and dedicated to “The challenges of fisheries management and how to address them successfully in the new CFP”. The seminar will look into the past experiences, present challenges and future solutions of fisheries management, focusing on the Baltic region as a model of future fisheries management. The panel will be devoted to discussing the first proposal for reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). There will also be a lunch reception hosted by WWF, AIPCE, Eurocommerce, Euro Coop and Euro-Toques* - an alliance advocating for a real reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The seminar will take place on 27 July, 2011, in Gdynia, at the Sea Fisheries Institute, staring at 9:30 and ending at 4 pm. Attached you will find the invitation and the draft agenda for the event.
