New sustainable fishing policy in the EU – what does it for the environment, the fishing industry and the consumers?
Seminar organised by the European Parliament. The seminar will be held in Swedish.
After a few years of discussions and negotiations, the EU has recently adopted a new fisheries policy that will apply from 1 January 2014. To put an end to the huge problem of overfishing, policies rest on the principle of maximum sustainable yield. The decision also means that it largely becomes forbidden to throw unwanted fish overboard. The new rules also means that the sustainability principle will apply to EU-flagged vessels operating in overseas waters. As well as it introduces new rules on labeling so that consumers are better informed about the fish they buy.
The seminar will take place at Europahuset, plan 2, Regeringsgatan 65, Stockholm.
