The International Day for Biological Diversity is a day for events to increase awareness and understanding of biodiversity issues.
It was proclaimed by the United Nations and is linked to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The date of 22 May was choosen to commemorate the adoption of the text of the CBD on 22 May 1992 by the Nairobi Final Act of the Conference for the Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
