How fisheries management can help reach climate and biodiversity targets

Published on March 22, 2021

A four day online symposium explores how fisheries management can help reach climate and biodiversity targets.

Starting today Our Fish is organising Delivering on Climate & Biodiversity Targets Through Better Fisheries Management, a four-day virtual symposium exploring how ending overfishing is critical for realising the EU’s response to the biodiversity and climate emergency. The event offers simultaneous interpretation in French, Spanish and German.

The first seminar gave a very good scientific introduction to how ending overfishing can deliver for climate mitigation, adaptation, biodiversity and people. The EU has a unique opportunity to play a leading role on the world stage during both the UNFCCC COP 26 in Glasgow and the Convention on Biological Diversity COP 15 in Kunming, and the series of seminars ends with a fireside-chat with, among others, EU commissioner for the Environment, Oceans & Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevicius, on the pathway for decision-makers to help pave a way forward.

Recordings of all seminars can be found here.
