No more cod for Drogba, Lampard, Deco

Chelsea Football Club is one of 6,500 customers to face removed Atlantic cod and swordfish from their lunchroom menus, as the world’s largest contract caterer decides to follow conservationists’ recommendations.

The Compass Group, which caters to schools, workplaces and restaurants all over the UK and Ireland, along with the Bristol Zoo, had already banned bluefish tuna and swordfish and eleven other vulnerable species from its menus, and now decided to include all 69 species on the Marine Conservation Society (MSC) blacklist.

Alaskan Pollock, Pacific salmon and Dover sole from Hastings will still be okay for Chelsea footballers and Bristol tiger-handlers, but most Atlantic cod, four varieties of skate, five tunas and two types of plaice will all be no-no’s.
