Jessica Tengval is completing a PhD at the University of Bergen, studying natural mortality in fisheries management. Originally drawn to marine life, Jessica gained a deeper understanding of fishing as both a necessity and cultural value through work with small-scale fisheries in the Philippines. Now based on a remote peninsula in western Norway, Jessica’s researches and communicates fisheries management issues in a community where the ocean remains central—from its fishing heritage to its modern surf culture.
