Institute of Food and Resource Economics (FOI) was established January 1, 2004 as an independent institute at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL). The Institute was established in a merger between the former sector research institute, Danish Institute of Food Economics, under the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and relevant units at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University.

The Institute’s research includes theoretical and application-oriented economics, bioethics and law with relevance to society and industry. We cooperate with the natural science disciplines, as well as with national and international research institutions and research environments. Our research constitutes a large part of the Institute’s activities and is the foundation for our advisory tasks and teaching activities.

The Fisheries Economics and Management Division perform research into optimal use of resources within fishing and fish. The research centres on the fishing sector in the EU and in Denmark and includes three main areas of interest:
