European launch of the Global Ocean Commission Report

The European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Co-Chairs of the Global Ocean Commission invites to a European launch of the Global Ocean Commission report ´High Seas and Us´.

The launch is also seen as an opportunity to bring together high level political representatives from EU Member States, Members of the European Parliament and a wide range of stakeholders to discuss the Global Ocean Commission’s proposals in the context of the European Union’s Blue Growth Policy and sustainability agenda as related to the future uses and health of our common ocean and heritage.

About the Global Ocean Commission
The Global Ocean Commission (GOC) is an independent international commission championing ocean recovery and seeking to improve the governance and management of the ocean. The key issues for the GOC are, with specific focus on the high seas, overfishing, large-scale loss of habitat and biodiversity, the lack of effective management and enforcement, and deficiencies in governance. The GOC is composed of 17 high-profile individuals from esteemed backgrounds in politics and business. In the development of its proposals the GOC has consulted widely and considered the best available science and economics to produce what they believe is the ‘rescue package’ for the ocean if implemented fully.

The event till take place at: Charlemagne Building, 170 Rue de la Loi, 1040 Brussels
